Georgia:
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution took such a beautiful stand for the environment and animals this weekend, covering the front page of Saturday’s paper with, “Our Yellowstone: A heroic deal keeps development and mining away from the Okefenokee.”
For those who missed it, I have it displayed in an X post and a Facebook post.
I send thanks to Lew Regenstein for making sure we didn’t miss it!
The editorial opens with:
“Today is a great day for our children and our grandchildren.
It is a great day for the American alligator, the Seminole bat, the Southern cricket frog, the black bear, the wood stork, the brown-headed nuthatch and over 1,000 different species of plants, reptiles, mammals and birds that call the Okefenokee Swamp home.
It is a great day for conservationists, birders, paddlers, hikers, nature-lovers and schoolteachers.
It is a great day for the proud residents of Charlton County.
It is a great day for Georgia.”
It champions House Speaker Jon Burns for his efforts and calls out Governor Brian Kemp for his lack of them.
Legislators look to letters pages as barometers of public opinion. And newspapers love to learn that readers are happy with their work. Will you take just a moment to send a quick, appreciative, well-deserved letter to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, letters@ajc.com , to lend animals your voice? Always include your name, address and phone number for verification purposes.
Yours and all animals’,
