Angelenos:

Today’s Los Angeles Times brings us two sickening animal cruelty stories, and a heartening animal rescue story, all in the B section.

On page B6 we have the story, “Trainer, girlfriend are arrested in dog deaths” written by Lila Seidman.

It opens with:

“An Irvine animal trainer and his girlfriend were arrested Thursday night after police connected the couple to the death of at least 10 dogs — with nine believed to have perished on a single day.

“Kwong ‘Tony’ Chun Sit, 53, of Irvine, was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and destruction of evidence, according to the Irvine Police Department. Sit’s girlfriend, Tingfeng Liu, 23, of Vista, was arrested on suspicion of the same charges.

“Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a pet owner reached out to the Irvine Police Department to report that their dog trainer sent a message saying their dog had died in its sleep and had been cremated, according to a news release.”

On page B2: “Two donkeys shot by arrows spotted in Moreno Valley” by Annie Goodykoontz. That story is also available on Yahoo without a paywall.

And as a reprieve from human horrors, we have, on page B3, a story by Lila Seidman, “Fish saved from Palisades fire return to Malibu.”

This quote sums that one up nicely:

“’In this time of total madness in our world and total upheaval in our environment, there’s not many moments when we get a chance to do something as hopeful as bringing the gobies back to their home,’ Rosi Dagit, principal conservation biologist for the conservation district, told attendees of a small ceremony.”

MSN has a link to that one with no paywall.

Each of those presents an opportunity to give animals a voice in the Los Angeles Times. If you have any kind of emotional response, please makes use of it by sending a letter to the editor.

I send thanks, as always, to Elaine Livesey-Fassel for making sure we always know what’s going on with animals in the Los Angeles Times.
