I’m traveling, but had to make sure that everybody saw the front page, above the fold, announcement in the New York Times that Mexico City has swapped its bloody bullfights for a bloodless version. I can provide a gift link to that story compliments of Teresa D’Amico.

Here’s the Associated Press coverage.

The Boston Globe has that on page A3, under the headline, “Mexico City bans violent bullfighting, sparking celebration — and outrage.”

Massachusetts activists should respond to that at letter@globe.com

We are always most likely to be published in our city’s paper, though the New York Times prides itself on being read all over the world and is happy to publish letters accordingly.

Meanwhile a Los Angeles Times story headline, page A5, announces “New strain of bird flu wipes out Mississippi poultry farm.” The article notes that tens of thousands of birds have been “euthanized” as a result, a term I object to given that most are killed, though this article doesn’t note it, via ventilation shutdown plus, which means turning off the ventilation and turning on the heat- baking the live birds to death.

Here’s an AOL link to that one.

If you are yet to send a letter to the Los Angeles Times appreciative of their close attention to the spirit of avian flu and making some point about our general treatment about the species why not grab that opportunity now?
