PREVIOUS PRAISE FOR KAREN DAWN’S WRITING:
“Of all the figures in the U.S. animal protection movement, it is Karen Dawn whom I most look forward to reading, not just for the uncompromising directness of her message but for the clarity, warmth, and good humor with which she expresses it.”

ADVANCE PRAISE FOR PAULA PITBULL
In this delightful memoir, Karen Dawn takes us on a joyous and enlightening journey with Paula Pitbull. Her tale is rich with lessons about life and love. I was both profoundly touched and inspired by it. I can’t think of a book I enjoyed more.”
Laura Keats, co-executive producer of Animal Planet’s “Pit Bulls and Parolees”
“Paula Pitbull is beautifully written and thoroughly engaging—I laughed out loud at points and cried at others, which is the most one can hope for from a reading experience. I cannot recommend it highly enough.”
Bruce Friedrich –Executive Director, The Good Food Institute
“Okay I admit it: I cried when Paula died.”
Gavin Polone, executive producer Curb your Enthusiasm
“Karen Dawn has a knack for finding the good in every person and the humor in every situation, including those that may be painful but can reveal life’s greatest lessons. In this memoir we are introduced to Paula Pitbull, an unlikely guru who delivers her precious teachings with tail-wagging directness. It is a joy to read.”
Sharon Gannon, founder and director of Jivamukti International School of Yoga
Karen Dawn’s memoir of her sparkly pit bull princess is full of color, fun and laughter. It is impossible not to fall in love with Paula, even while Karen reminds us that Paula’s breed is near-universally reviled. We receive a beautiful lesson about opening one’s heart to all of the earth’s creatures, including all manner of humans, and not being enslaved by poisonous stereotypes.
Laurie Soriano, esq – featured in Billboard Magazine’s “Women In Music 2016: Power of Attorneys”
“Karen Dawn writes well and is fun to be around on the page. Paula Pitbull is lively, informative and courageously revealing; you won’t be bored. I am still in two minds about pit bulls but especially appreciated the information about the value of other animals. Karen is keenly aware of injustice and obviously hopes that people who love their dogs as if they were family members will come to realize that other animals are every bit as sentient – a hope we share.
Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson – Author of “Dogs Never Lie About Love” and “When Elephants Weep.”
In Paula Pitbull, we get to spend time with one of those special souls who delight us when they just show up with no need for protocol or reasons why. There were no words in Paula’s space, nothing to catch up on. A large dog with a cute little dog mindset, she would walk over and occasionally break just about anything to lay across your lap, absolutely clear that snuggles matter most and that her good intentions would pave the road to heaven. Paula’s persona was so strong that I don’t miss her, she is still here, and through this joyous book others will get to know her and learn from her presence.

“Karen Dawn’s new and incredibly enjoyable book, Paula Pitbull, is a love letter to all dogs. Dogs open our hearts and allow us to be open to life. This powerful memoir reminds us, just as dogs do, to live each day to the fullest and shows us that as we enrich the lives of our companion animals we enrich our own.”
